Nanny Tip of the Week!

Nanny Tip of the Week!

Nanny Tip of the Week! Calling out sick. Be professional and honest! It happens to the best of us. You wake up with that dreaded feeling of a sore throat, chest cold, or stomach flu and panic sets in. If you just can’t make it to work, try to give your boss plenty of notice. It’s always good to inquire about a sick policy. Maybe your boss would like you to try to come into work and prefers to send you home? Maybe your boss dislikes germs and doesn’t want you anywhere near their children? If you are carrying anything highly contagious, respectfully decline and try to provide a doctor’s notice. On the other hand, if it’s anything that over the counter medicines can help with, we know it will be a yucky day, but try your best to make it through… especially if it’s a short day

Nanny Tip of the Week! Congratulations! You’ve made it passed the initial interview(s) and now it’s time for a trial with the family. Please show up dressed modestly, with little or no makeup, and wear flats. Parents will appreciate you looking professional and ready to play with their children. Be helpful, kind, and considerate. Most importantly, have fun!

Facebook… Twitter… Pinterest! They keep us connected. However, you should not be connected while you are working. Save your status updates for your break times, and before or after work hours. Could you imagine if your employer saw you post an update while you’re supposed to be caring for their children? Please use common sense 🙂

Nanny Tip of the Week! Be part of the solution! Part of being a nanny is making life easier for the parents. It’s so important to be a part of the solution and not adding to problems in the household.  Look for opportunities to make a difference. Did you hear mom and dad talking about that much needed date night? Offer to work a Saturday night! Is the mini-van full of empty water bottles, shoes, and crunched up crackers? Take 10 minutes out of your day to tidy things up. Is the child struggling with reading and you just happen to know some fun literacy games? Share them! These little gestures will go a long way 🙂

Nanny Tip of the Week! Carry sunscreen that contains both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide on you at all times. Please make sure to apply sunscreen to all of the children in your care at least 30 minutes before you go outside. Make it fun by drawing letters or shapes with the lotion and let the child rub it in those easy to reach areas. The back of the knees, ear lobes, and neck are often forgotten about, but these areas can burn easily. If a child is wearing pig tails or double french braids, don’t forget that part line. Scalps burn easily. Use lip balm! Nobody likes chapped lips. Reapply, reapply, reapply. Stay safe, healthy and comfortable this summer 🙂
