Annual Review: We believe an annual review is essential for families and nannies to feel like a cohesive team. The annual review is a special meeting with time set aside to review all aspects of the nanny’s job and responsibilities with your family. We encourage families and nannies to have time to reflect and fill out a questionnaire before their review. Common topics can be, but are not limited to, job duties, scheduling, review of essential documents in the home, communication, as well as looking to the future and discussing what may be to come in the next year and beyond!
Update the Employment Agreement: After completing the annual review, discuss whether there are aspects of the employment agreement that need to be updated! We believe that an up-to-date employment agreement that properly outlines all aspects of the position is the foundation for continued growth and partnership! Give a Raise or Perks: Providing a raise to your nanny is a wonderful way to acknowledge their hard work and dedication over the year. Additionally, a raise communicates to the nanny that there is room for growth within their current position, which can set the stage for a longer employment period. If giving a raise is not within your budget this year, consider alternative ways to acknowledge the nanny. If the nanny utilizes their own car for work, you could schedule a detail for their vehicle. Did your nanny play an important role in your family’s travels? A new set of luggage could be a great option! Other ideas include contributing to continuing education opportunities and giving the nanny their anniversary day off!
Give a Gift: There are many ways to give gifts to nannies! A great place to start is by including the children! A handmade card can be a simple and thoughtful gift that the nanny will cherish for years. Perhaps the children have some creative and unique ideas of their own. Honoring their relationship with their nanny through gift-giving is a thoughtful way for them to consider gratitude while acknowledging a very important member of their childcare team! Other great options include gift cards to a favorite store, restaurant, or cafe and even gifting a massage, pedicure, or time for self-care. Acknowledging the nanny’s hard work, dedication, and care is key!
Invest In Their Future: Setting your nanny up for future success is another way to communicate how much you value them professionally and personally! Some great options are contributing to education funds, assisting with a car payment, and contributing to their retirement fund. Again, there is no one-size-fits-all for each family-nanny relationship, but the thought and care will go a long way!
